About Us

About the Fitzroy Square Frontagers' and Garden Committee.

How the Garden is Managed

The garden is entirely funded and managed by the freeholders of the buildings surrounding the square. It receives no public funding from the local authority. The Committee meets regularly to oversee horticultural maintenance, structural repairs to the historic railings, and conservation efforts.

The Fitzroy Square Frontagers’ and Garden Committee (FSFGC) is a non-profit body established to preserve and maintain the square’s central garden and the architectural heritage of its terraces. The Committee operates under a constitution agreed by the frontagers — the freeholders of properties immediately adjoining the square — who fund the garden through an annual maintenance levy.

The Key-Holder Scheme

Each property owner (frontager) on the square holds a key to the garden gate. This historic arrangement dates back to the creation of the square in 1790, when the garden was laid out specifically for the private use of residents paying the garden rate.

If you are a new frontager requiring access, please contact the committee secretary via the Contact page or log in to the Members Area to download the key-holder agreement form.

Partner Organisations

We work closely with several heritage and local organisations to ensure the square remains protected:

The Georgian Group

Headquartered at No. 6 Fitzroy Square, The Georgian Group advises on architectural conservation and the protection of Georgian buildings and monuments across the United Kingdom. We consult them on any works affecting the listed fabric of the terraces. georgiangroup.org.uk

Camden Council

We coordinate with Camden Council regarding the Fitzrovia Conservation Area guidelines and local planning policy affecting the square and its setting. All external works to the listed buildings require Listed Building Consent from the Council. camden.gov.uk

London Gardens Trust

We participate in their annual Open Garden Squares Weekend, which opens the private garden to the wider public each summer. This is one of only two occasions each year when the garden is open to all. londongardenstrust.org
